Chapter 12: The Truth
Charlotte wiped her face and gave me a shaky smile.
“You look like one of those men in ads for expensive watches. I’m sure women line up to stare at you.”
I laughed.
Then I told her the truth.
“The only woman I ever measured anyone against was a girl named Charlotte.”
She went still.
I reached up and wiped the tears from her cheeks.
“You saved me long before you came back into my life. You did it in one night, when I had almost forgotten what it felt like to matter.”
Her mouth trembled.
“Tyler…”
I kissed her then.
Softly.
Carefully.
Like something long lost finding its way home.
For one second, she froze.
Then she kissed me back.
