Chapter 4: The Man Who Lost Control
Daniel turned toward the door.
Panic.
Pure instinct.
But he didn’t make it far.
A mourner stepped in front of him.
Then another.
“You’re not leaving.”
“This is insane!” Daniel snapped.
“No,” the maid said, climbing into the coffin. “This is the truth.”
She cradled Evelyn gently, tears falling now.
“I heard you knocking,” she whispered. “From the hallway.”
Evelyn’s eyes filled.
Sirens began to echo outside.
Daniel’s face twisted.
Not guilt.
Fear.
Because now—
there was nowhere left to run.
