Chapter 2: The Girl Who Refused to Listen
The maid didn’t stop.
Splinters tore into her hands as she pulled harder.
The lid snapped open just enough.
Inside—
Evelyn.
Still. Pale. Blue-lipped.
Then—
her fingers trembled.
A scream shattered the room.
The maid reached in instantly, gripping her hand.
“Ma’am, I’m here,” she whispered.
Evelyn’s eyes flickered.
Alive.
Behind them, Daniel stumbled back.
The maid looked at him.
No fear now.
Only rage.
“She told me,” she said, voice shaking, “you were doing something to her medicine.”
Daniel’s lips parted.
“That’s a lie.”
But the room had already stopped believing him.
