Later, in a quieter room, the doctor sat across from the girl.
“What do you remember?” he asked gently.
She looked down at her hands.
“A room like this,” she said. “My mom… couldn’t walk either.”
The doctor’s chest tightened.
“She said something was wrong,” the girl continued. “But no one listened.”
“Who was there?”
The girl’s answer came slowly.
“She was.”
The same woman.
The pattern locked into place.
Not one victim.
Many.
The doctor stood abruptly. “We need to call the police.”
But the girl grabbed his sleeve.
“There’s more,” she whispered.
His pulse quickened.
“What?”
“She’s not finished.”
