The next morning, I messaged Ella.
I stared at my phone for nearly an hour before typing.
Hi Ella, this is Jeremiah’s mom. I know this is unusual, but could we talk privately?
She replied quickly.
Is everything okay?
I explained it as gently as I could.

A kind gesture.

There was a long pause before she answered.
