My parents had signed papers they did not understand, trusting a man who planned to use them as disposable shields.
I called the one person Victor should have feared.
“Clara?” Agent Naomi Price answered.
“Remember the Vale file?”
There was a pause.
“The one we couldn’t close because no insider would testify?”
“I have the insider now,” I said. “And evidence of assault, extortion, coercion, wire fraud, and money laundering through a family business.”
Naomi’s voice changed instantly.
“Where are you?”
“At the wedding venue.”
“Of course you are.”
