PART 2: The Shift No One Expected
Jasmine stood up.
Not fast. Not aggressive.
Just enough to meet Maya at eye level.
The movement was small—
But the effect was immediate.
The laughter softened. Conversations faded. The energy in the room tightened, pulling inward like something about to snap.
Maya smirked, though something flickered beneath it now.
“Finally decided to do something?” she said.
Jasmine looked at her.
Not with anger.
Not with fear.
With something far more unsettling.
Calm.
“I hope this makes you feel less empty,” Jasmine said quietly.
The words weren’t loud.
They didn’t need to be.
They landed.
Heavy.
The laughter stopped.
Completely.
Students who had been watching suddenly looked away. Others froze, unsure what to do. The moment didn’t feel funny anymore.
It felt exposed.
Maya blinked, thrown off balance.
“What did you just say?” she snapped, but the edge in her voice had dulled.
Jasmine didn’t repeat it.
She didn’t have to.
For the first time, Maya wasn’t in control.
There was no anger to push against.
No reaction to feed on.
Just silence—
And a reflection she didn’t want to face.
“You think you’re better than me?” Maya muttered, quieter now.
Jasmine shook her head slightly.
“No. I just think you’re trying to prove something to everyone else… because you can’t prove it to yourself.”
The words hit harder than anything before.
Maya’s smile faded.
Not dramatically.
But enough.
Enough for everyone to see.
The power in the room shifted.
Not through force.
Through control.
