Part 3: The Priest Who Stepped Forward
But the slap never came.
“Stop.”
The word cut through the room—not loud, but powerful enough to freeze everything.
Father Dominic stepped forward.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
His eyes weren’t calm anymore.
They were sharp.
Focused.
“Remove your hand,” he said quietly.
Mr. Gable blinked, caught off guard. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” Father Dominic replied. “Step away from her.”
The room went silent.
Even the air felt heavier.
Mr. Gable laughed nervously. “Father, with respect, I’m handling discipline—”
“No,” the priest interrupted. “You’re abusing a child.”
That word landed like thunder.
Abusing.
The secretary froze. The hallway outside went completely quiet.
Mr. Gable’s face tightened. “You’re overreacting.”
Father Dominic stepped closer, placing himself between me and him.
“No,” he said again, softer now—but somehow stronger. “I’m seeing clearly.”
He knelt beside me.
For the first time since this started, someone moved gently.
Carefully.
His hand hovered near my ear, not touching—just checking. Seeing the blood. The swelling.
When he stood, something in his posture had changed.
He wasn’t just a priest anymore.
He was a shield.
“You will not touch her again,” he said.
Principal Henderson stepped in, voice uneasy. “Father Dominic, let’s handle this properly—”
“We will,” the priest replied. “By telling the truth.”
He turned to the secretary.
“Call her parents. And call the authorities.”
Mr. Gable scoffed. “Authorities? This is a school matter—”
“No,” Father Dominic said firmly. “This became a legal matter the moment you raised your hand.”
Silence crushed the room.
Outside, the church bells began to ring again—but this time, they sounded different.
Louder.
Clearer.
Like something had finally been heard.
I looked up at Father Dominic, my vision still blurred with tears—but something inside me shifted.
For the first time that day—
I wasn’t alone.
