Tomás sat upstairs fixing a broken fan. Lucía was rigid on the couch, hands twisted together. I handed him my phone without explaining.
He scrolled. First confusion. Then fear. Then the terrible recognition of his wife’s face in images she had never agreed to.
“Whose phone?” he asked.
“Esteban’s hidden phone,” I said.
Lucía broke down. I told Tomás everything because she could not. The comments. The footsteps. The door. The light under our room.
When I finished, Tomás turned to his wife with tears already falling.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
She sobbed. “I thought you would think I was destroying your family.”
Tomás dropped to his knees and took her shaking hands.
“You are my family,” he said.
