The Toddler Was Supposed to Choose One of the Elegant Women—But He Turned to the Maid

He Dragged Me Down the Aisle Until I Screamed — He Didn’t Know the Priest Was Watching

Chapter 1: The Sanctuary

My ear felt like it was being torn apart.

“Walk, Lila! Or I’ll drag you all the way to the front!”

Mr. Gable’s grip tightened as he yanked me down the church aisle, my wheelchair jerking over the stone floor. Each pull sent sharp pain through my head.

“Please…” I cried, my voice shaking. “I didn’t do anything.”

“Silence in the house of God,” he snapped coldly.

The Sunday service had ended minutes ago.

But no one had left.

People stood frozen between the pews, whispering. Watching.

And near the front—Tyler.

Perfect suit. Perfect smile.

The real reason I was here.

He leaned casually against a column, arms folded, like this was entertainment. Like he knew no one would ever blame him.

My chair hit a crack in the floor.

Pain shot through me.

I cried out.

Mr. Gable didn’t stop.

To him, I wasn’t a child.

I was a problem that needed removing.

“You embarrassed this parish,” he said. “Father Dominic will decide what to do with you.”

My chest tightened.

Not the priest…

Anyone but him.
