“Take your brat and go to hell,” my husband hissed at my 7-year-old during our 10 AM divorce hearing. “The ruling is finalized. He gets everything,” his lawyer smirked.

Chapter 1 — The Black Folder

The courtroom went silent.

Even the ceiling fan seemed to slow.

Daniel leaned back in his chair, but the movement was too controlled. I knew that posture. He used it when he was trying not to panic.

Voss stepped forward. “Your Honor, we object to any surprise evidence.”

Judge Marlowe looked at the folder in my hand. “Mrs. Hale, what exactly are you submitting?”

“Bank records. Corporate filings. Internal emails. Appraisal reports. Wire transfers. And a sworn affidavit from Daniel’s former CFO.”

Daniel’s hand hit the table.

“Elise,” he whispered.

She did not look at him.

That was when I knew.

She had finally realized she was not his future.

She was his account.

Judge Marlowe broke the seal and opened the folder.

For ten seconds, she read without expression.

Then her eyes changed.

“Mr. Voss,” she said slowly, “did your client disclose ownership in Northlake Recovery Partners?”

Voss blinked. “Your Honor, I would need to review—”

“Answer carefully.”

Daniel’s jaw tightened.

Judge Marlowe turned another page. “And did your client disclose monthly transfers of clinic revenue into the Hale Family Wellness Foundation?”

Elise went pale.

Noah looked up at me, confused by the shift in the air.

I squeezed his hand once.

Not yet, baby.

But soon.
